Carabid beetles
(also known as ground beetles) are general predators which often increase
in numbers when pesticides are reduced. Both adult beetles and their
grubs (larvae) are predatory, although the larvae normally feed
below the ground. There are many species of Carabids including the
fastest running insects in the world - the tiger beetles.
