Cultural control of pests involves management of the crop environment in such a way as to reduce pest numbers or inhibit establishment of pests.  This could be achieved by removing weeds which are hosts to pest insects, planting crop borders with species which encourage beneficial insects or by removing plant material which can hold pests.

For example, a control strategy in vineyards for the vine weevil, Orthorhinus klugi,  is to remove and burn the canes after pruning. Larvae of the weevil are stem borers and will be removed from the vineyard, thereby breaking the life cycle and reducing the population size.
